  Tenshin Buko-ryu Heiho

Tenshin Buko-ryu Heiho is a sogo bujutsu (comprehensive martial art) that originated as kachu bujutsu (martial art practiced in armor) and uses a variety of weapons including tachi (sword), naginata (glaive), kusarigama (chain-and-sickle), yari (spear), kodachi (short sword), bo (long staff) and nagamaki (big naginata). Buko-ryu’s main weapon is the naginata and its use emphasizes footwork, positioning of the hands across the shaft and the effective use of not only the blade but also the ishizuki (butt end) and the shaft itself. Buko-ryu is one of the few martial traditions that include in their curriculum ai-naginata (naginata versus naginata) kata while its particular characteristic is the use of kagitsuki naginata, a naginata with a crossbar at the blade’s base.
